lake nakuru national park
Lake Nakuru national park Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s two premium parks and is a birds lover’s haven. It is surrounded by Lake Nakuru and located in the central rift conservation area in the southern rift valley region in Kenya.  The park is known to host over 400 bird species including the globally threatened species. It goes down the books of history as the first rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of black rhinos. Situated just about 164 kilometers from Nairobi, this park is only two hour’s drive from Kenya’s capital. It is dominated by a gentle undulating terrain with open woodlands and bushes typical of the dry rift valley vegetation. Lake Nakuru national park birding activities In addition to the four hundred species of birds, this park is home to over fifty mammal species and over five hundred species of flora. It is famous for the flocks of greater and lesser flamingos that gather around the lake which sometimes can me as many as two million.  For a good part of the year you can find this great pink mass around the lake since the birds stay within the rift valley and migrate from lake to lake.  The park was fenced to protect the endangered rhinos and giraffes. The park opens at 7 a.m and so if you are travelling from far, you need to start your drive early enough.   It could take you the whole day to see the entire park so you must plan to arrive early especially if you plan to visit for only one day.  Among the main activities you can do include picnics, camping, photography, game driving and bird watching among other activities While on your Kenya tour at the Nakuru National Park, you can buy souvenirs
